Siemens - New hardware with improved performance and new functionalities

Along with the release of TIA Portal V18, Siemens is introducing an extension to its hardware portfolio: the CPU1514SP-2PN. This new addition to the range builds on the existing controllers in the ET200SP series, including the CPU 1510SP(F) and CPU 1512SP(F), and offers significant improvements in speed, memory capacity and connectivity.

What characterizes the ET 200SP series remains: its compact and space-saving design. The CPU1514SP-2PN is designed to meet the growing needs of industrial automation. With a more powerful processor and an additional PROFINET IO interface, users can now implement network isolation. This opens the door to various applications, such as separating automation and IT connections. The CPU 1514SP-2PN is available in four variants; a standard variant, a failsafe variant, a technology variant and a combination thereof.

Another interesting development is the introduction of firmware version 3.0 for the S7-1500 CPUs. This firmware update brings an entirely new system architecture, including a dual-core processor. This allows tasks for communication and user programs to be processed simultaneously and more efficiently, reducing the user program's impact from other processes. In addition, communication performance has been significantly improved, especially for protocols such as OPC UA.

The new hardware in the SIMATIC S7-1500 CPUs offers not only better performance, but also significantly more programming and data memory - 100% and 50% more, respectively. In addition, the old and new hardware are spare-part compatible. This means that if you need to replace a CPU from an earlier generation, you can easily transfer the memory card from the old CPU to the new hardware, without any modifications to the STEP 7 project.

In short, these recent developments strengthen Siemens' position as a leader in industrial automation and provide users with powerful tools to work more efficiently and effectively in TIA Portal V18.

Siemens - Introduces the new generation of variable speed drives
With the Sinamics G220 series, Siemens further expands its portfolio of AC drives. The series includes several variants, including an IP55 variant and a Clean Power version where harmonics can be reduced by up to 97 per cent without external chokes. The Sinamics G220 variable speed drives position themselves as the most high-end and all-round within the Siemens portfolio. Many functions and components are integrated as standard or can be added via option modules, making the inverters very flexible and versatile. Additions such as an IP55 variant, standard 3C3 coating, monitoring of ATEX motors and an encoder input make the controllers suitable for a variety of sectors such as: offshore, chemical, oil and gas, food, pharmaceutical and automotive.

Elektro Internationaal - Unburdening with Vendor Managed Inventory
Optimising internal logistics is often a challenge for panel builders, from grab stock management to getting a grip on delivery times. Especially when production is spread across multiple sites, like at Elektro Internationaal (EI) in Woerden. In 2016, the company already took a big step, together with itsme Connected Business, at their batch production site. This was related to the introduction of Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) in the form of a 2BIN system. In the near future, EI expects to start the construction of new premises, whereby all activities will be brought under one roof. At that point, the logistics for the entire production will also be optimised.
