Make energy consumption motors transparent via Modbus with Eaton's PKE

Quickly and easily to integrate into existing systems, the PKE communication module provides an open and standardized interface to the widely used Modbus RTU fieldbus. Just as basic devices can be easily extended via plug-in trip blocks, the PKE communication module need only be placed on the motor protection switch after which it can be networked. This allows not only the full status of the motor but also the current consumption, and thus the energy of the motor to be detected.

In the current range up to 65 A, the PKE motor protection switches with long-range electronic overload protection have been an established alternative to bi-metal solutions for many years. The modular system consists of a PKE base module and various trip blocks for motor or system protection that can be mounted without tools. Changes can also be quickly implemented at a later date and existing devices can be easily adapted to new tasks. The wide current range of the PKE simplifies engineering and reduces project costs. In addition, the class range is also adjustable, making it possible to correctly protect motors with longer or heavier start-ups.

The PKE's electronic trip unit not only has a wide setting range, low power and accurate and very stable trip characteristics, but also provides a wealth of machine status data. This data can easily be made available for system control and monitoring through the PKE communication module. In real time, the Modbus RTU protocol can communicate both simple status data, such as switching status, reason for shutdown or number of power-ups, as well as analog information such as motor currents and thermal motor image. The PKE Modbus RTU communication module has a network range of up to 1,000 m and can address up to 63 devices via dip switches. No special software or proprietary peripherals are required.

The Modbus communication module turns the PKE motor protection system into a true all-in-one solution: one device for switching, protection, monitoring and data transmission. This simplifies project planning, improves ease of maintenance and minimizes costs.

Elektro Internationaal - Unburdening with Vendor Managed Inventory
Optimising internal logistics is often a challenge for panel builders, from grab stock management to getting a grip on delivery times. Especially when production is spread across multiple sites, like at Elektro Internationaal (EI) in Woerden. In 2016, the company already took a big step, together with itsme Connected Business, at their batch production site. This was related to the introduction of Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) in the form of a 2BIN system. In the near future, EI expects to start the construction of new premises, whereby all activities will be brought under one roof. At that point, the logistics for the entire production will also be optimised.
