ABB - Optimal machine safety with Orion2 Base light curtains

In industrial environments where machines are worked with, everything on and at the machine must be shielded as much as possible to ensure the safety of the user. That first-class safety does not have to come at the expense of production capabilities, ABB proves with a wide range of machine safety solutions. The Orion2 Base light curtains are a good example. With them, openings for machine access or material feed can be optimally secured.

Light curtain for body detection

ABB's Orion light curtains are specially designed to increase workplace safety by stopping machines when a person enters a hazardous area. This prevents potentially dangerous situations and protects workers from injury. In addition to light curtains for finger and hand detection, the Orion2 Base is specially designed for body detection.  This model is ideal for securing larger work areas and offers a robust solution for demanding industrial environments.

Different versions

The Orion2 Base light curtain comes in versions with 2, 3 or 4 light beams for a protected height of 500 to 1200 mm.  The working distance between the transmitter and receiver units is as much as 50 meters.  Thus, the light curtain provides a solution for a variety of machine safety needs.  The light curtain is even suitable for applications with mirrors to angle the beams.

Quick to install

The Orion2 Base comes with M12 connectors that speed up the wiring process. Protection tubes and lens shields provide additional protection for the equipment in harsh conditions. In addition, alignment aids and swivel brackets simplify correct positioning and alignment of the light curtain.

A local reset button can be connected directly to the light screen. This eliminates the need for additional cables between the reset button and the control box. A simple safety relay is sufficient for monitoring the light curtain.

Signal 64 - Boon Edam - Access to VMI and a large assortment.
Boon Edam, known for its revolving doors and turnstiles, picked itsme as their main electrical components supplier last year. The large product range and the vendor managed inventory (VMI) solution for the grab stock of electrical assembly materials were the deciding factors. “When you install VMI, you actually do it forever.”

Connected Business - Vendor Managed Inventory
The Lean improvement method distinguishes eight waste categories. One of these is 'inventory'. Too much stock is not good, but neither is too little. After all, having stock also provides the safe feeling of availability in times of uncertain internal planning and external factors that cannot be directly influenced. Because optimising availability both in one's own company and in the supply chain is often not the core competence of our customers, itsme can take over the care of such optimisation, for example through the import and management of so-called Vendor Managed Inventory systems. But, how do you know whether VMI is indeed the right solution? Ralph van Aartsen can answer that crucial question - using five questions. Here, in advance, are his answers to our questions on VMI.
