Webinar ATEX

On March 1 itsme hosted a webinar on explosion safety. ATEX expert Arthur Rooze discussed your role in explosion safety: from manufacturer to user, he refreshed your ATEX knowledge and addresses pitfalls based on examples. Watch the webinar back now!

"Liever de lucht in" - translated as: "Then rather the sky!" - is what is said Lieutenant Commander Van Speijk (1802-1831) to have shouted as he stuck a burning cigar in the powder keg. Today, the powder room of his gunboat would be labeled an "ATmosphère EXplosible," an ATEX zone. In other words, an explosive environment, forbidden to people with burning cigars. Unlike Van Speijk, we do everything we can to prevent explosions, and make sure we don't go airborne.

But, what is everything? The legal requirements are not the same for every employer. That's why it's important for you to know exactly what is required of your company in this area. Among other things, we will discuss the two ATEX directives: 114 (on the safety of equipment and products) and 153 (on employee safety).

We held our webinar on explosion safety in cooperation with our partners Schuch, Stahl and 3M. The host was Robert Koloszewski, senior accountmanager bij Breemes. Arthur Rooze, the speaker, has more than 25 years of experience in explosion safety. He was ready to answer all possible questions about ATEX.

Watch the recording of this webinar and get to know the possibilities for (mandatory) prevention, including required time, people and products, so that you can make a good trade-off between investment and safety.

Robert Koloszewski

Robert has years of experience as a technical-commercial representative. Since 2011, he has been working at Breemes as senior account manager. His goal is to unburden his customers as much as possible. In his role, he gets asked many different questions, including about ATEX. On March 1, it is Robert's turn to ask questions! Based on your input, he will ask Arthur all he can.

Arthur Rooze

Arthur Rooze has been involved in explosion safety for more than 25 years. Since 2005, he has been senior consultant ATEX expert; formerly with D&F Consulting, currently with the Process Safety team within Kader Consultancy & Interim. In 2008, together with Gerd-Jan Frijters and Jacko Scholten, he wrote the book 'Explosion safety in 100 questions', focusing on the ATEX 137 directive in force at the time.

Festo - Proportional pressure control valve VPPI
With the VPPI proportional pressure control valve, all nominal sizes are controlled directly; without the need for pilot valves or pre-stages. Due to the pressure compensating element, the valve regulates dynamically and accurately; even at the larger nominal sizes. The powerful and low-friction voice coil makes the VPPI highly dynamic. The integrated position controller contributes to high stability.

    Phoenix Contact - CONTACTRON-speedstarter
Frequency inverters are often used in applications where, for example, variable speed is used or where the starting and stopping of the motor must be controlled. In use, the CONTACTRON speed starter combines the advantages of a compact motor starter with the essential features of a frequency converter for numerous applications:

    Stagobel - WIBE cable ladders
The cable management system is an important part of a building's infrastructure, just like the skeleton is for our bodies. The robust WIBE cable ladders are the solution of choice to form this strong backbone for cable management. They are highly flexible: numerous accessories allow them to be mounted both horizontally and vertically. Thus they efficiently simplify and structure cabling. Moreover, the handy click system reduces installation time, thus saving costs.

    Fluke - 1736 three-phase Power Logger
Today, we are increasingly faced with the need to optimise energy flows, find energy-efficient solutions for large consumers and bring down overall energy consumption. Saving on electrical consumption is therefore one of the topics high on companies' agendas. One of the first tasks in this process is to identify large consumers and try to minimise extra losses due to harmonics, imbalance, ... try to minimise them. For this, the Fluke-1736 is an ideal combination that allows not only to map electrical power flow, but also problems with harmonics, imbalance, mapping. This is therefore usually the first step to start improvement processes.
